A tough par 4 where a good tee shot, avoiding the bunkers is needed. This will leave a 2nd shot with a medium to long iron to the right half of a well guarded green.
A tricky and tight hole placing a premium on a long straight drive and an accurate second shot to a well guarded green with a narrow entrance. The long hitter can reach the bunker in the middle of the fairway and the one on the right is in range for most.
Play as a par 5, so you don’t need a driver off the tee. Second shot is longer than you think. Aim for short of the green and hope for a chip and a putt.
The second hole went across into the Forty Acre Field(now the practice field),the green being near the buildings now being used by the ground staff for headquarters and equipment. In fact the hole was named the Hemel for that reason and there was a special local rule, because near the buildings there was a mound covered with nettles. Having retrieved your ball from the nettles you got a free drop not nearer the hole!
